Problems solved by technology

Another disadvantage of such cutting inserts is that during machining, dirt and particles can fall into the central through hole and collect at the bottom of the cavity for receiving the locking means forming the toggle
It is sometimes difficult to detach the cutting insert even when changing the insert

Embodiment Construction

[0014] In the figures, the blade holder body is indicated with 10, which body is provided at the end with a seat having a bore 11 connected to its bottom face. An indexable insert 12 is fixed in the seat, which insert has a central hole 13 with a bottom 14 . The blade holder includes a base surface 15 incorporated into the holder or formed by a separable spacer and may be made of cemented carbide to obtain the required hardness and flatness. The blade holder 12 is circular and has a central boss 12a. The lateral support of the seat is formed by surfaces 16 and 17 with recesses curved corresponding to the shape of the blade holder. The surfaces 16 and 17 have a conical shape corresponding to the shape of the side surfaces of the blade holder, with a clearance angle of typically 4-8°. The bearing pin 18 is mounted in the bore 13 of the cutting insert and is intended to be a double-armed lever under the action of a pressure element, so that the double-armed lever is here provid...

Abstract

According to the invention, an insert holder (10) exists for indexable cutting inserts. In connection with the insert seat, a clamping device is located, including an L-shaped toggle joint (18), of which one arm (21) is received in a hole (13) in the cutting insert and of which the second arm (22) is actuated by a pressure member (19). Characteristic of the invention is that the hole (13) in the cutting insert is a blind hole and that the end portion of the arm (22) co-operating with the member (19) has a V-shaped cavity (23) in order to enclose a waist portion (24) of the member (19).

Description

field of invention [0001] A novel cutting tool related to the present invention comprises an insert holder for holding an indexable cutting insert, the insert holder is provided with a cavity at the seat of the holder body so that the cutting insert rests against A base surface, and a locking pin fixed in a bore of the holder and extending upwardly in the bore of the cutting insert, the locking pin is arranged to ensure stable positioning of the cutting insert for at least one of the relative tool holders. The side bearings clamp the cutting inserts. Background technique [0002] There are many different detent-type insert holders in which the cutting insert is clamped by means of a detent extending upwardly into a hole in the cutting insert, and the lever movement of the detent is controlled by a lever provided in the retainer. The opposite end of the locking pin that the pressure generating element cooperates to achieve. Swedish patent SE357316 discloses such a lock pin ...
