Embodiment Construction

[0024] A service that knows the relationship of entity attributes and is aware of the access to the individual entity data stores of participating IT system applications allows external applications, such as navigation or data access, to perform consistency checks on relations stored in external data stores before triggering functions, Or alternatively check continuously.

[0025] For each application (eg CMMS, GIS, SCADA) that holds a dataset, the adapter manages communication to the application and hides the details of application API access from the service. An adapter provides the functionality to (1) retrieve a property value from a participating application and (2) write that property value to a participating application.

[0026] Making properties of entities consistent across applications involves two basic steps:

[0027] 1) Detect attribute inconsistency, and (2) restore attribute consistency.

[0028] The setup of the attribute consistency service system is shown ...

Abstract

Any external application using data access functionality can use the attribute consistency service to update and synchronize attribute value for an entity. The application can access the relations of an entity, which are stored in an entity reference database. In case of inconsistent attribute values, a master attribute value is determined which is then written to the defined attributes of the applications. The consistency of data stored in various IT systems can be ensured prior to attempting to access it. Errors by calling a service or functionality that would require access to data that is not available or that is inconsistent are therefore avoided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to the field of utility automation. [0002] It relates to methods of ensuring consistency of entities stored in datasets of many different IT systems used to operate utility automation assets. Background technique [0003] As energy markets deregulate, the focus of utilities shifts toward optimizing internal business processes. On the IT systems side, navigating, synchronizing and retrieving information stored in the various data sources where work is performed (eg SCADA - Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, CMMS - Computerized Maintenance Management System, GIS - Geographic Information System) is challenged. [0004] All applications affect the same "scope of expertise" - the physical assets in utility operations such as stations, lines, transformers, circuit breakers, zones and regions. Various applications can be used to model these assets and assign them specific attributes. However, uniform access to this in...
