Abstract

A system and method for reducing in boot time in an electronic device (10) are disclosed. In one embodiment, a command to power off the electronic device is received. An amount of information stored in at least one of the plurality of memory banks of RAM (60) containing data is calculated. A determination is made as to whether the RAM has sufficient storage space to store compacted data and also form a RAM disk in a portion of the RAM, wherein the step of determining is based at least in part on the amount of information calculated. A RAM disk is initiated in an available memory bank of RAM. The RAM is compacted and a hibernate command is executed wherein the RAM disk is a target for storing the compacted RAM. Power is maintained to memory banks that form the RAM disk and the processor (42) of the portable communication device is set to a power collapse mode.

Description

technical field [0001] The techniques of the present disclosure generally relate to systems and methods for improving the boot time of electronic devices. Background technique [0002] For many electronic devices, it usually takes a considerable amount of time to prepare for use when being powered on by a user. This is especially true for electronic devices that require time to boot before operating normally. It is convenient for such electronic devices to reduce boot time. [0003] Conventional methods already exist that can be used to support reduced boot time. For example, boot time can be reduced by avoiding a cold boot that powers off the device each time. Another method is the so-called "sleep mode," which generally refers to storing the contents of random access memory (RAM) in non-volatile memory before the electronic device enters a powered-off state. In the powered-on state of the electronic device, the stored RAM content is read back from the NVM, and the RAM ...
