Embodiment Construction

[0024] refer to figure 1 , sports rackets are generally represented by 10. figure 1 The racket 10 is configured as a tennis racket. The racquet 10 includes a frame 12 that extends along a longitudinal axis 16 and includes a head 18 , a handle 20 , and a throat 22 coupling the head 18 and the handle 20 . Frame 12 is a tubular structure formed from a lightweight durable material, preferably carbon fiber composite.

[0025]As used herein, the term "fiber composite" or "composite" refers to a variety of fibers impregnated (or impregnated) with a resin. The fibers may be coaxially aligned as sheets, layers or plies, or woven or braided as sheets or layers, and / or chopped and randomly dispersed in one or more layers. A single ply typically includes hundreds or thousands of fiber bundles that are initially arranged coaxially and extend parallel to each other through the initially uncured resin. Each fiber bundle includes a plurality of fibers. The fibers are formed from a high t...

Abstract

A racquet includes polyester, monofilament racquet string and a frame extending along a longitudinal axis and including a head portion coupled to a handle portion. The head portion includes a hoop having inner and outer peripheral walls. The hoop defines a head size having maximum longitudinal and transverse dimensions, a , and, b , respectively. The dimension a is at least 1.2 times the dimension b . The inner peripheral wall includes string holes. Each of the cross segments transversely extends from one of the string holes to another, and each of the main segments longitudinally extends from one of the string holes to another. The end of the vertical size a closest to the cross segment and the handle is used to limit the second vertical size c. The ratio between the size a and the size c is at least 6.5. the line bed is provided with vertical segments, which are at least one more than the cross segments.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Patent Application Serial No. 61 / 675,029, filed July 24, 2012, entitled "RACQUET CONFIGURED WITH FEWER CROSS STRINGS THAN MAIN STRINGS." This application is related to a co-pending sequence of U.S. provisional patent applications, each entitled "RACQUET CONFIGURED WITH FEWER CROSS STRINGS THAN MAIN STRINGS," filed on the same date by William D. Severa, John B. Lyons, Robert T. Kapheim, and Robert T. Thurman No. 13 / 894,588, the entire disclosure of which is hereby incorporated by reference. technical field [0003] The present invention generally relates to a sports racket. In particular, the present invention relates to a racquet configured for use with a string bed having fewer horizontal string segments than vertical string segments. Background technique [0004] Sports racquets, such as tennis racquets, are well known and typically include a frame having a head coupled to a handle. T...
