Abstract

The embodiment of the invention discloses a coding mode selection method, a device and a coder. The method comprises the steps of obtaining candidate dividing methods of coding layers from all dividing methods of the coding layers through a quick RDO (Rate Distortion Optimization) algorithm for each coding layer of a coding unit, and determining optimum dividing methods of the coding layers from the candidate dividing methods through an RDO algorithm; selecting an optimum coding mode of the coding unit according to RDCost (Rate Distortion Cost) corresponding to the optimum dividing method of adjacent coding layers. Since the candidate dividing methods are obtained by adopting the quick RDO algorithm within the same coding layer in the embodiment of the invention and the computation complexity of the quick RDO algorithm is lower than the computation complexity of the RDO algorithm, the computation resource overhead of the coder can be saved; and between the adjacent coding layers, since the optimum coding mode of the coding unit can be selected still through the RDO algorithm, the mode selecting efficiency of the coder is improved and the coding quality can also be guaranteed.
