Abstract

The invention discloses a method and system for establishing a service chain in a software-defined network. The method comprises the steps of configuring virtual machines in an operating server, and configuring service function applications in the virtual machines; importing network traffic into each virtual machine and processing the network traffic via the service function applications; and starting an expansion server when no virtual machine is idle and importing the network traffic into virtual machines in the expansion server for processing. The method and system for establishing the service chain in the software-defined network can ensure the network traffic in the service chain to be controllable and identifiable, achieve efficient service pipelining processing and resource pool load balancing capabilities through function pre-installation, traffic scheduling modularization and load level extension, greatly improve service chain functions and deployment, operation and maintenance capabilities of the network, and can provide a technical scheme for large network carriers and cloud service providers to deploy various new types of network service functions flexibly at the edge of an IP network.
