Abstract

The invention discloses an ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) agent method based on different VLANs ((Virtual Local Area Networks). The ARP agent method is characterized by comprising the following steps that: a HostA (VLAN10) hopes to be communicated with another host HostC (VLAN40), and the HostA directly sends an ARP request; after receiving the ARP request, an apparatus applying an agent ARP searches a local ARP cache list, and if corresponding table items (comprising an IP (Internet Protocol) and MAC (Media Access Control) of the HostC) are found, the agent ARP immediately responds related information of going to the target HostC to the HostA; when a frame of a source address to a certain network segment is received, network segments in the agent ARP cache list are searched, and then a data packet is broadcast in a corresponding VLAN area (reduction of whole network efficiency, which is caused by whole network broadcasting, is avoided, and a request response rate is improved); and after receiving a broadcast, the HostC immediately responds to an ARP response and notifies an MAC address of the HostC, and after receiving the ARP request, the agent ARP apparatus notifies the MAC of E0/0 to the HostA.
