Abstract

A lighting system (100) includes a light source (110); a controller (1030) operatively coupled to the light source (110); and a timing device (130) operatively coupled to the controller (1030). The controller (1030) is configured to receive a selected action time associated with the produce; the produce includes an associated circadian rhythm defining an optimal action time range; the controller (1030) is configured to respond to the selected action time, the optimum action time The time frame and the time of day indicated by the timing device (130) determine the lighting schedule, the lighting schedule being configured to impose a circadian rhythm on the produce to vary the optimal time range of action so that the selected time of action coincides with the optimal time range of action . The controller (1030) is configured to operate the light sources (110) according to a lighting schedule.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to systems and methods for controlling the circadian rhythm of agricultural products. Background technique [0002] The induction of circadian rhythms by crops of choice is a nascent field. Early evidence suggests that circadian rhythms in produce can be controlled both pre- and post-harvest, and that concentrations of certain phytochemicals accumulate in induced cycles in produce. However, current lighting systems with lighting configurations for inducing produce do not exhibit the ability to automatically determine lighting for inducing produce, requiring manual operation of the lighting devices to effectuate the inducement. Therefore, there is a need for systems that can automatically determine lighting schedules and emit light according to them, in order to control the circadian rhythm of agricultural products. [0003] This background information is provided to reveal information believed by the applicants to be of ...
