A coin authenticating device is provided which includes a two-dimensional laser scanning sensor, a heating source module, an infrared thermal imager, a computer subsystem, a rack, a transmission device, a coin storage hopper and a coin arranging mechanism. The two-dimensional laser scanning sensor, the heating source module and the infrared camera module of the device are connected with the computer subsystem respectively. In order to achieve the purpose of coin authentication, the device realizes the authenticity discrimination of the coin from two aspects with one as the coin size and the other as the material, comprising: using the two-dimensional laser scanning sensor to continuously measures the height, the diameter and the three-dimensional topography of the coin on the transmission device; completing the detection of the geometric features of the coin; controlling by the computer subsystem the heating source module to heat the coin arranged on the transmission device, and acquiring the temperature change data of the coin surface detected by the infrared thermal imager to complete the coin material detection.
