Abstract

The invention provides a method for assigning a prefix label and an SDN controller for performing the method. The method comprises the steps as follows: collecting a network topology to obtain an IP prefix of each forwarding node in the network topology; acquiring SRGB of each forwarding node; determining whether a common intersection exists in the SRGB of each forwarding node; if existing, assigning a globally unique prefix label to each IP prefix of each forwarding node from the common intersection; and issuing both the assigned prefix label and the IP prefix corresponding to the prefix label to each forwarding node in the network topology. By using the method, a prefix label is directly allocated in the SRGB intersection of the forwarding node by the SDN controller, the prefix labels ofthe IP prefix on each forwarding node are separately calculated with the SRGB of each forwarding node without an index, and the subsequent SDN controller delivers the same label information to different forwarding nodes for the same IP prefix, thereby simplifying the generation and delivery of the prefix labels.
