Problems solved by technology

Other applications of robotics include object recognition, where stereoscopic depth information allows robotic systems to separately occlude parts of an image that would otherwise be partially or completely hidden, such as when one object is in front of another. cannot distinguish them as two separate objects

Abstract

Provided are a pixel in an image sensor, an imaging unit, a system and a method for ranging. Combining time-of-flight (TOF) technology with analog amplitude modulation within each pixel in the image sensor. A pixel can be a double-tap pixel or a single-tap pixel. Two optoelectronic receiver circuits in the pixel receive their respective analog modulation signals. The distribution of the received photoelectron charge between these two circuits is controlled by the difference (or ratio) of the two analog modulation voltages. The differential signal generated in this way within a pixel is modulated in the time domain for the TOF measurement. Therefore, TOF information is added to the received optical signal by an analog domain based single-ended-differential converter inside the pixel itself. The TOF-based distance measurement and its resolution are controllable by changing the duration of the modulation. Autonomous navigation systems with these features can provide drivers with improved visibility in difficult driving conditions such as low light, fog, severe weather, or high ambient light.

Description

[0001] This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application No. 62 / 380,351, filed August 26, 2016, and U.S. Patent Application No. 15 / 340,972, filed November 1, 2016, the disclosures of which It is hereby incorporated by reference in its entirety. technical field [0002] The present disclosure generally relates to image sensors. More specifically, and not by way of limitation, specific embodiments of the inventive aspects disclosed in this disclosure relate to modulating in the analog domain the light-sensitive photogates of pixels in Time-of-Flight (TOF) image sensors, and the use of The specific ratio of the differential output produced by each pixel is used to calculate the distance and TOF value of three-dimensional (3D) objects. Background technique [0003] Three-dimensional (3D) imaging systems are increasingly being used in various applications such as industrial production, video games, computer graphics, robotic surgery, consumer displays, surveillanc...
