Embodiment Construction

[0020] The present invention provides a seat attachment system capable of positioning and securely mounting a passenger seat to the chassis of a public transportation vehicle.

[0021] figure 1 A passenger compartment 10 of a public transportation vehicle 12 is depicted. The public transport vehicle 12 is represented here by a guideway vehicle. Alternatively, the public transport vehicle may be a bus, a ferry or even an airplane or helicopter, eg for transporting troops. In other words, the public transportation vehicle 12 may typically be a vehicle in which the passenger seats 14 are preferably aligned along the length or width of the vehicle, although not necessarily. Each passenger seat 14 of a public transportation vehicle 12 is attached to the vehicle structure by a chassis 16 of the vehicle. Typically the elements of the chassis 16 for attaching the passenger seat 14 are the floor 18 or the walls 20 . The wall 20 may be a side wall, an end wall or an intermediate par...

Abstract

A seat attachment system (22) for a mass transit vehicle (12) comprises a rail (24), a fastener (26) and a seat interface (28). The rail (24), which is adapted to be secured to a chassis (16) of the mass transit vehicle (12), has a longitudinal T-slot (30) adapted to receive the fastener (26). The rail (24) has two non-parallel sets of corrugations (34a, 34b) on its external face. The seat interface (28), which is adapted to be mounted to a seat frame (36), is also provided with two non-parallel sets of corrugations (34c, 34d) whose angle matches that of the sets of corrugations (34a, 34b) on the rail (24). The sets of corrugations are adapted to cooperate and interlock in pairs so as to respectively locate the seat interface (28), and thereby a seat (14) to which it is attached, vertically and horizontally upon the fastener (26) being tightened.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of public transport vehicles. More specifically, the present invention relates to devices for adjustably mounting seats into such public transport vehicles. Background technique [0002] Most public transportation vehicles include seats for passengers. These seats are usually attached to the floor or side walls of public transport vehicles. During the manufacture of these vehicles, the seats may require variations in mounting position due to manufacturing tolerances. Additionally, some customers may require an interior arrangement of the passenger compartment that has more or fewer seats than another customer. Accordingly, mass transit vehicles are designed to be as versatile as possible to reduce manufacturing costs while allowing flexibility in the number and exact placement of passenger seats within the passenger compartment. [0003] A convenient solution is to mount the seats on longitudinal...
