Embodiment Construction

[0037] The present invention provides a method for identifying exotic media samples given a database containing a large number of known media files. There is also provided a method for generating a database index that allows efficient searching using the identification method of the present invention. Although the following discussion primarily refers to audio data, it should be understood that the methods of the present invention can be applied to any type of media samples and media files, including but not limited to: text, audio, video, images, and any multimedia combination of individual media types. In the case of audio, the invention is particularly useful for identifying samples containing highly linear or non-linear distortions due to, for example, background noise, transmission errors and loss of information, interference, bandwidth-limited filtering, quantization, time warping, and digital compression of speech quality. As will become clear from the description belo...

Abstract

The present invention provides a method for identifying a media entity from a media sample, the method comprising: generating an agreement between an identifier of said media sample and a corresponding identifier of a media entity to be identified, wherein said media sample's said signature and said corresponding signature of said media entity have equivalent fingerprints; and identifying said media sample and said media file if a plurality of said coincidences have a linear relationship defined by, landmark * n =m*landmark n +offset, where, landmark n is the sample mark, landmark * n is corresponding to the landmark n The file flag of , and m represents the slope.

Description

[0001] This application is a divisional application of an invention patent application with an application date of July 26, 2001, an application number of 01813565.X, and an invention title of "System and Method for Identifying Sound and Music Signals under Strong Noise and Distortion" . technical field [0002] The present invention generally relates to content-based information retrieval. More specifically, the present invention particularly relates to the identification of audio signals comprising sounds or music that are highly distorted, or contain intense noise. The invention also particularly relates to a method for recognizing media entities from media samples. Background technique [0003] There is an increasing need to automatically recognize music or other audio signals produced from a variety of sources. For example, owners of copyrighted works or advertisers are interested in obtaining data about the broadcast frequency of their material. Music tracking servi...
