The present inventors, being dance teachers, have noticed that dancers often experience pain and difficulty during initiation or completion of tiptoe work, exhibiting incomplete and / or incorrect development of foot strength. If early training is performed with the shoes described in previous Example 1, a smooth transition to the desired toe work is facilitated and will promote the natural and healthy development of the foot shape.

[0072] "Multipurpose dance shoe" (see FIG. 4 ) is based on Example 2. Additionally, it has similar structure and reinforcements, such as in the upper (404). The outsole 105 extends rearwardly about 37 mm (1.5 inches) (although less may be desirable) over the otherwise exposed arch 112 behind the ball of the big toe, while the heel 113 is exposed. The ankle strap 102 may have a satin (for example) upper lip 109, or may be edged, and the lower lip 101 is elastic. The toe cap is completely wrapped by the extension (401) of the upper (404). Although shoelaces (106) are shown, the inventors have realized that an article of footwear has many options for adjusting shoe fit. For safety reasons, the inventors prefer not to use metal parts. In one option (FIG. 4a), the collar is cut in one piece and has no fastening means and no seams.
