The method comprises: adding virtual switching instances (VSI) adopting the same master and backup PWs into a fast switching group in advance and respectively establishing forwarding table entries pointing to the master and backup PWs for each VSI; when the master PW in the fast switching group normally operates, controlling each VSI in the fast switching group to forward a message by the forwarding table entry pointing to the master PW; and when detecting that the master PW fails, controlling each VSI in the fast switching group to forward the message by the forwarding table entry pointing to the backup PW. The invention can largely shorten time for flow switching and ensure carrier-grade fast switching time of 50ms.
