Embodiment Construction

[0013] Now by referring to the attached Figure 1 to Figure 4 , to best understand example embodiments of the present invention and their advantages, like reference characters denote like parts throughout the drawings.

[0014] figure 1 A perspective view of microscope cover 100 attached to microscope 102 for use with cover lens cover system 104 . While the present invention contemplates any suitable medical device being protected by cover 100, the present invention is particularly suited for surgical microscopes, such as figure 1 The microscope 102 is shown in.

[0015] Cover 100 functions to create a protective barrier between microscope 102 and its environment. For example, in embodiments where microscope 102 is a surgical microscope, cover 100 protects microscope 102 from any bodily fluids, surgical fluids, and / or other materials that come into contact with microscope 102 during surgery. Conversely, any contamination associated with microscope 102 is prevented from com...

Abstract

According to one embodiment of the invention, a microscope drape disposable lens cover system includes a coupling member configured to couple to an objective lens barrel of a microscope. A lens housing is coupled to the coupling member. The lens housing includes a transparent protective lens positioned such that a geometric normal of the transparent protective lens forms an angle with respect to an optical axis of an objective lens housed within the objective lens barrel when the housing is coupled to the objective lens barrel. At least a portion of a fitting is disposed between the coupling member and the lens housing. The fitting is frictionally retained adjacent the coupling member to prevent the rotation of the fitting relative to the coupling member but enables the rotation of lens housing with respect to the objective lens barrel coupling member.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to the field of medical covers, and more specifically to a microscope cover lens cover system and method of assembly thereof. Background technique [0002] Hoods are often used to minimize the risk of infection of surgical patients in the operating room or to protect medical instruments from the surgical field during surgery. The hood can be placed over the patient and / or the medical instrument to form a sterile barrier, preventing any microbes and contaminants that could cause infection from migrating into or out of exposed tissue and undressed wounds. For example, during surgery, bodily fluids may remain on medical devices, which then become contaminated and dangerous to those who must work with the devices. Instead, bodily fluids will end up remaining on the cover and not on the covered medical device. [0003] Advances in medical methods have correspondingly created a need for improved medical devices. For...
