Abstract

The invention discloses a remote video monitoring method based on a set top box and a system thereof. The remote video monitoring method is that a remote monitoring terminal sends a calling request to the set top box according to a session initiation protocol (SIP) account of the set top box, wherein the set top box is arranged in a monitoring spot. The set top box responds to the calling request and sets up talking connection with the remote monitoring terminal. Video information is obtained by the set top box from a camera connected with the set top box, coded into video data and transmitted to the remote monitoring terminal. When obtaining the video data, the remote monitoring terminal decodes and broadcasts the video data. A remote monitoring terminal such as a mobile is used to call daily household equipment such as the set top box of a television. Cost of remotely monitoring a living place by a user is greatly reduced due to the fact that a video call can be set up to achieve remote monitoring as the set top box automatically answers calls.
