Embodiment Construction

[0022] figure 1 A first embodiment of a carcass 10 of the present invention for a printing blanket is shown. The frame includes, in order, a first fabric layer 11 forming a base layer, an adhesive layer 12, a second fabric layer 13, a first compressible layer 14, a spacer layer 15, a second compressible layer 16, and a third fabric layer 17.

[0023] Typically, fabric layers used in the present invention may have a fiber or yarn count per inch in the warp and weft directions of about 8 to 60 counts per centimeter, depending on the denier of the fibers or yarns. (20-150 counts / inch). In addition, the fabric weight is in the range of 65 to 270 grams per square meter, preferably about 135 to 270 grams per square meter (2 to 8 ounces per square yard, preferably 4 to 8 ounces per square yard) and the thickness is between 0.125 to 0.75 millimeters (0.005 to 0.03 inches), can be used for specific applications of the various fabric layers of the present invention.

Abstract

The invention is about a carcass for a printing blanket, to be used for instance in offset printing, comprising: a fabric stack substrate comprising at least one fabric ply; a first compressible layer deposed atop said substrate, said first compressible layer comprising a moisture cured thermoset polymer matrix having a plurality of closed cells distributed substantially uniformly therein such that said first compressible layer has substantially uniform compression characteristics; a separation layer made of either natural or synthetic fibers, or of a mix of the two; a second compressible layer deposed atop said separation layer, of structure and thickness similar but not necessarily the same as those of the first compressible layer; and a top fabric stack deposed atop said second compressible layer comprising at least one fabric ply. The invention is also about a complete printing blanket, comprising the carcass described above and an elastomeric printing face.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a carcass comprising dual polymeric compressible layers for printing blankets, such as lithographic offset blankets and the like. 2. Background technology [0002] The use of blankets in printing techniques such as offset lithography is known, where such blankets have the basic function of transferring ink from a printing plate to paper. Such printing blankets are designed with great care so that the blanket is neither damaged by mechanical contact during imprinting nor by chemical reactions with ink components or other solvents used in the printing process . Repeated mechanical contact does result in some amount of compression of the blanket, however, the integrity of the blanket must be maintained within acceptable limits for the image to be properly reproduced. It is also important that the blanket has resiliency properties so that it can eventually return to its original thickness and provide consistent quality im...
