Problems solved by technology

If no non-absorbing medium is found or a zero reading is missing, a zero point error will be generated
[0015] Another potential problem is that when the medium concentration is very high, the absorption rate reaches 100%, the Lambert-Beer law will break down, resulting in inaccurate (low) concentration readings
[0016] When a CCD (electrical coupler) sensor is used to detect transmitted light, changes in the detector pixels will result in more severe reading distortion

Embodiment Construction

[0063] figure 1 The optical structure of the standard White cell 2 is shown. The White cell is composed of three spherical mirrors with the same curvature radius: a front reflector (field mirror) 4 and two rear reflectors (eyepieces) 6 and 8 arranged side by side. The reflector is arranged opposite to the two rear reflectors. Usually, these reflectors are placed in a measurement chamber (not shown), and the measurement chamber has an inlet and an outlet, allowing the sample fluid (gas or liquid) to enter or exit. In an apparatus for analyzing a gas sample, the distance between the front mirror 4 and the rear mirrors 6, 8 is typically about 80 cm (although larger or smaller devices could be used).

[0064] The light source 10 , taking a xenon arc lamp as an example, has a group of light source lens groups 12 placed on the edge of the front reflector 4 . Preferably, the light source 10 has a wide spectrum and can provide ultraviolet (UV) or ultraviolet-visible (UV-V) spectral ...

Abstract

An optical absorption spectroscopy apparatus comprises a light source, a detector for detecting an optical absorption spectrum of light transmitted from the source through a sample volume and one or more reflectors for reflecting the transmitted light multiple times through the sample volume. An adjuster device is provided for adjusting at least one optical element so as to vary the path length of the transmitted light by controlling the number of times the light is reflected through the sample volume. Drive means is provided for driving the adjuster device, so enabling the detector to detect the transmitted light at a range of different path lengths.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to an optical absorption spectrum device and an optical absorption spectrum method. In particular, but not exclusively, the present invention relates to apparatus and methods for detecting the presence and / or concentration of one or more substances using ultraviolet, visible or infrared light using differential or conventional optical absorption spectroscopy methods. The detected substance can be a fluid (gas or liquid), such as a pollutant or a toxic substance. Background technique [0002] The concentration of a sample containing one or more fluid substances, such as gases or liquids, can be detected by optical absorption spectroscopy by passing light through the sample and detecting the spectral absorption properties of these substances. [0003] The amount of light absorbed by a substance and the sensitivity of the method depends on the concentration of the substance and the optical path length of light through the substance....
