The method comprises: a measuring tape stretches out and draws back and an erasing module is activated when the measuring tape draws back into a housing each time; the erasing module sends a measurement data zero-clearing instruction to a processor; and the processor receives the instruction sent by the erasing module and carries out zero clearing on the measurement data. According to the method, because the erasing module is activated when the measuring tape draws back into the housing each time, the processor will carry out measurement data zero clearing automatically when the measuring tape draws back into a housing after an operator finishes measurement work one time. Therefore, when the operator carries out measurement work next time, the initial measurement data are set to be zero, thereby causing no influence on the subsequent measurement data and thus avoiding an error accumulation phenomenon due to too many times of measurement. Moreover, zero clearing is carried out automatically when the measuring tape draws back, thereby reducing the workload of the operator substantially.
