Embodiment approach

[0053] 1. A product comprising:

[0054] closed layer;

[0055] a substrate having two opposing major surfaces, one of the opposing major surfaces being a nanostructured surface;

[0056] a metal oxide layer, wherein the nanostructured surface is coated with a metal oxide layer, and the metal oxide layer comprises a metal oxide; and

[0057] A metal layer covering the metal oxide layer.

[0058] 2. An article comprising:

[0059] closed layer;

[0060] a substrate having two opposing major surfaces, one of the opposing major surfaces being a nanostructured surface;

[0061] a metal layer, wherein the nanostructured surface is coated with a metal layer; and

[0062] A metal oxide layer covering the metal layer, wherein the metal oxide layer comprises metal oxide.

[0063] 3. The article of any one of embodiments 1 to 2, wherein the metal layer is adjacent to the metal oxide layer.

[0064] 4. The article of any one of embodiments 1 to 3, wherein the metal layer is discon...

Embodiment 1

[0101] One side of the viscose fabric was treated with nanostructures using the method described above for 120 seconds. Ag was deposited on the nanostructured side of the viscose fabric using the sputtering process described above at a pressure of 5 mTorr, and a magnesium coating was applied on the second side of the viscose fabric according to the method above. The log reduction was tested against the Ag-coated side. Microcurrent, wetting time and log reduction properties were measured and reported in Table 1.

Embodiment 2

[0105] Both sides of the viscose fabric were treated with nanostructures using the method described above for 120 seconds. Ag was deposited on the first side of the viscose fabric using the sputtering process described above at a pressure of 5 mTorr, and a magnesium coating was applied on the second side of the viscose fabric according to the method above. The log reduction was tested against the Ag-coated side. Microcurrent, wetting time and log reduction properties were measured and reported in Table 2.

Abstract

The present invention provides an article having an antimicrobial effect. The article comprises a closure layer; a substrate having two opposing major surfaces, one of the opposing major surfaces being a nanostructured surface; a metal oxide layer, wherein the nanostructured surface is coated with a metal oxide layer, and the metal oxide layer includes a metal oxide; and a metal layer overlying the metal oxide layer.

Description

Background technique [0001] The risk of infection by medical devices is particularly high in the medical field. Antimicrobial articles or coatings are widely used in the medical world to prevent / reduce infection. For example, medical devices used by physicians, including orthopedic needles, compression plates and implants, wound dressings, etc. must be constantly protected against infection. Metal ions with antimicrobial properties such as Ag, Au, Pt, Pd, Ir, Cu, Sn, Sb, Bi and Zn are used as antimicrobial compounds. Among these metal ions, silver is known for its good biological activity. Various silver salts, complexes, and colloids have been used to prevent and control infection. Contents of the invention [0002] While soluble salts of silver have currently been used to prevent microbial infection, they do not provide long-term release of silver ions due to loss through removal or complexation of free silver ions. They must be reapplied periodically to correct this p...
