Abstract

Embodiments of the invention provide a message forwarding method and network equipment. The network equipment includes a routing module and a tunnel module. The method includes the following steps: the routing module determines a route corresponding to a destination address of a to-be-forwarded data message as a target route according to addressing rules; the tunnel module determines a first tunnel corresponding to the target route; the tunnel module finds a target tunnel group including the first tunnel from multiple preset tunnel groups, wherein the multiple tunnels included by each tunnel group are used for forwarding data messages with the same quintuple; the tunnel module determines a second tunnel from the target tunnel group according to the load balancing rule of a preset target tunnel group; and the tunnel module forwards the to-be-forwarded data message through the second tunnel. According to the embodiments, time consuming for determining the cause of the problem of tunnel load balancing can be decreased, and labor costs can be reduced.
