When a character is handwritten and inputted from a 1st display screen by the use of an input pen, an input part 3 outputs input character information including input position information expressing an instructed coordinate point. The inputted handwritten character is displayed on the 1st display screen. A character recognition part 33 arrays plural previously determined candidate character information to be recognized in the descending order of similarity to the inputted character information to prepare a candidate character string. When a 1st candidate character is not a required character and another character is selected, a correct character display information part 37 displays the detailed information of the selected candidate character on the 1st display screen under a condition such as superposition with the handwritten input character which is previously set up in a function setting/selecting part.
