Embodiment Construction

[0021] Referring now to the accompanying drawings in detail, figure 1 A front view of a holder 10 according to the invention is shown. The retainer 10 includes a plurality of tooth-adhering portions 11 connected by an elongated connecting portion 12 . Each tooth-adhering portion 11 has a generally planar top edge 13 and a generally curved bottom edge 14 . The connecting portion 12 is located at a position below the top edge 13 of the tooth-adhering portion 11 . The tooth adhesion portion 11 and the connection portion 12 are formed as a one-piece hydride solution, or as multiple pieces in a single manufacturing process.

[0022] figure 2 Retainer 10 is shown attached to a patient's teeth 20 . The retainer 10 has a rear surface corresponding to the rear side (lingual side) 21 of each patient's tooth 20 so that it fits securely thereon. Retainer 10 may be bonded to tooth 20 using any conventional dental bonding material.

Abstract

An orthodontic retainer (10) is configured for application to a lingual surface of a patient's teeth(20).The retainer (10) is custom designed to exactly match the shape of the lingual side (21) of the patient's teeth (20) and is formed from a plurality of tooth-adhering portions (11) connected by elongated connection portions(12).The tooth-adhering portions (11) each have a generally flat top edge (13) and a generally curved bottom edge(14).The connection portions (12) are located at a position below the top edge (13) and above the bottom edge (14)of the tooth-adhering portions(11). The retainer (10) is formed as a single piece by milling, injection molding or 3D printing.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to an orthodontic retainer for holding teeth in a treatment position after orthodontic treatment has been completed. In particular, the present invention relates to a sufficiently aesthetically pleasing ceramic lingual retainer that attaches to the lingual side of a tooth, thereby rendering the retainer invisible. Traditional lingual retainers are formed from brackets bonded to the back of the teeth and subsequently joined by wires. The advantage of these retainers is that they are invisible and do not have to be removed when eating. However, they also have several disadvantages. One problem wit...
