Embodiment 1

[0203] The following examples illustrate the broad scope of applicability of the invention and are not intended to limit the scope of the invention. Modifications and changes can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. Although any methods and materials similar or equivalent to those described herein can be used in the practice of testing the present invention, the preferred methods and materials are described here.

[0204] a) Introduction

[0205] In response to pathogen infection, plants are primed for a variety of defense-specific events, including production of reactive oxygen species, activation of G proteins, cell wall reinforcement, and induction of signaling cascades leading to transcriptional activation of defense genes (Dixon et al., 1994; Blumwald et al. 1998). Although major components of signaling cascades are being discovered, only few transcription factors have been identified that integrate these signals at the transcriptional l...

Abstract

The present application describes a plant gene regulatory element and the uses thereof. More particularly a silencing element for modulating plant responses to pathogens, auxin and ethylene is described. The invention also describes transcriptional repressors which specifically binds onto the silencing element of the invention. Nucleotide and amino acid sequences of a novel transcriptional repressor referred as 'SEBF' are given.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application claims priority to US Provisional Application 60 / 303,780, filed July 10, 2001, the entire contents of which are hereby incorporated by reference. Background of the invention [0003] A) Field of invention [0004] The present invention relates to a plant gene regulation element and application thereof, more specifically, relates to a silencing element used for regulating plant responses to pathogens, auxin and ethylene. The present invention also relates to transcriptional repressors that specifically bind to the silencing elements of the present invention, comprising a protein hereinafter referred to as "SEBF". [0005] B) Brief description of existing technology [0006] In response to pathogen infection, plants are primed for a variety of defense-specific events. Although major components of signaling cascades are being discovered, to date only few transcription factors have been identified that integrate these signals...
