The invention discloses an elevator system. The system comprises a lift car, a counterweight, a driving device, a traction rope and a compensation rope, wherein the lift car, the counterweight, the driving device, the traction rope and the compensation rope are arranged in an elevator shaft. The compensation cable is connected under the lift car and under the counterweight, a travel guide device is arranged nearby the turning position of the compensation cable, and the travel guide device comprises a supporting part, a movable part and a detection controller, wherein the detection controller is connected into a driving main loop of the driving device; and when the elevator system operates normally, the travel guide device plays a limiting and guiding role on the compensation rope, and when the elevator system is in a retention working condition, the guide device controls the driving device to stop working so as to guarantee the safety of the elevator system. According to the technical scheme, the protection requirements of the car retention working condition and the counterweight retention working condition can be effectively met, the requirements on the construction size (such as the height of a top layer and the depth of a pit) of the elevator shaft are not increased at the same time, and in addition, the technical scheme further has the characteristics of being simple in structure, low in cost, high in reliability, strong in universality and convenient to install and adjust.
