Abstract

The present invention relates to a device and method for preventing free flow through an infusion set by selectively preventing flow therethrough with a flow restrictor (104) disposed within the infusion set. The flow restrictor may be responsive to a pressure differential within the infusion set, or may be responsive to squeezing of the infusion set. When a pair of flow restrictors (504, 508) are used in series, an in-line pump can be formed.

Description

[0001] related application [0002] This application is a continuation of US Patent Application No. 09 / 836,850, filed April 16, 2001, which in turn is a continuation of US Patent Application No. 09 / 569,332, filed May 11,2000. technical field [0003] The present invention relates to a device and method for preventing the free flow of injection liquid through the infusion line during enteral or parenteral administration, especially an occluder / valve and infusion solution used in an infusion device etc. A method of use of a device, etc., wherein the flow restrictor / valve prevents the undesired free flow of injectable fluid through the infusion set, while allowing the injectable fluid to flow through the infusion set under controlled conditions. Background technique [0004] The use of infusion sets to infuse patients with fluids is well known in the medical arts. Infusion sets can be used for both enteral and parenteral administration. When the patient is unable to eat norm...
