Abstract

Techniques for generating dimensional information in hierarchical form are described. A computer-implemented system including, for example, data storage with multi-dimensional data. The multidimensional data includes data cubes having dimensions. The system further includes an executable software module that scopes the data store and generates hierarchical data describing the dimensionality hierarchy of the data cube. The software module generates the hierarchical data to ensure that the hierarchical data aggregates within the sum represented by the data cube.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to software systems, and more particularly to computing environments for enterprise business planning. Background technique [0002] Enterprise software systems are usually complex, large-scale systems that support many simultaneous users, eg, hundreds or thousands of users. Examples of enterprise software systems include financial planning systems, budget planning systems, order management systems, inventory management systems, sales force management systems, business intelligence tools, enterprise reporting tools, engineering and resource management systems, and other enterprise software systems. [0003] In many cases, users wish to publish data from an enterprise software system to other third-party software tools. For example, a user may wish to publish data from a financial planning system to reporting and analysis software. But many enterprise software systems, such as financial planning systems, store data in the...
