Resilient service quality in a managed multimedia delivery network

A multimedia service and service quality technology, applied in the field of network or ultra-high-speed cache overlay network, can solve problems such as bottlenecks, undescribed maintenance and recovery of multimedia on-demand sessions, multiple high-bandwidth copy consumption, etc., and achieve the effect of keeping the implementation cost down

Problems solved by technology

The disadvantage of the "multiple copies of the same flow via different routes" solution is that multiple high-bandwidth copies consume considerable resources, and the scaling up of the system requires exponential infrastructure upgrades
[0008] The first common disadvantage of all known prior art is that optimization is only applied in the initialization phase to select and deliver assets
A solution for maintaining and restoring multimedia on demand session (service) quality has not been described
The second common disadvantage is that the underlying architecture based on centralized logic creates bottlenecks and single points of failure

Embodiment Construction

[0028] figure 1 The sP2P multimedia distribution network architecture is shown. Multimedia content, where the multimedia content may be stored in the user's personal storage, is placed on a library server and distributed by the CDN to peers such as IPTV set-top boxes (STBs). The content is distributed from the library server to streaming servers (super peers), where the content is cached in community storage.

[0029] figure 1 A superpeer in is a value-added node deployed by a network operator, whose main purpose is to cache content frequently accessed by users (peers). These superpeers improve quality as a value-added service. The dotted lines between these superpeers mean: superpeers can exchange cached multimedia data between themselves, these superpeers do not need to always contact the library server.

Abstract

The present invention relates to resilient service quality in a managed multimedia delivery network. A managed multimedia delivery network for providing a multimedia service with resilient service quality is disclosed. The network comprising a plurality of caching nodes for caching multimedia data segments; an edge caching node for colleting requested multimedia data segments from the caching nodes and for serving a user equipment with the collected multimedia data; and a service gateway for providing cache information to the edge caching node indicating how to obtain the requested multimedia data segments from the caching nodes. The edge caching node comprises a service quality monitoring unit for monitoring the collection of the data segments from the caching nodes and for requesting cache information from the service gateway when the collection of data segments impacts the service quality.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method and system for providing resilient quality of service in a managed multimedia delivery network, also known as a Super Peer-to-Peer (sP2P) network or SuperSpeed Caching overlay network. Background technique [0002] Traditional (usually closed network) IPTV solutions place content on centralized repository servers or ingest life content at a small number of ingest points. A Content Delivery Network (CDN) is later used to distribute the content from the library server to the streaming server near the edge of the network. If a user wants to watch content that is not available at the edge streaming server, the library server either services the request or rejects the request. [0003] Open P2P networks (e.g. Internet-based) are emerging as an alternative delivery mechanism to traditional Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services, such as content on demand (CoD), broadcast TV (bTV), push CoD . Traditional IPT...
