Such workflows must be pre-defined, and they cannot be driven dynamically
This means that qualifying new offerings and their relationship to network-level services can be quite laborious

Embodiment Construction

[0066] figure 1 A hierarchical model 100 within three network service classes is provided. The Telecommunications Management Forum (TMF) has defined specifications for products, customer-oriented services and resource-oriented services in terms of Shared Information Model (SID). The SID model or any service specification with two or more logical abstraction layers can be used in embodiments of the present invention. The Service Catalog is the central OSS repository for storing product specifications in network-level technical services. When product or service specifications are configured into a catalog, relationships between logical levels within the catalog are defined (eg, product to service 114, service to technical service 124, and vice versa). The logical level of product 110 contains all specifications related to service 122 . The logical level of technical services 130 contains all specifications related to technical services 132 .

Abstract

A service provisioning and activation method and system for telecommunications networks. The system operates in between a business support system (400) and a plurality of network elements (480) and comprises a service repository (450) containing service configuration data. The system comprises also an order management component (410), which includes a generic logic (412) for service provisioning and activation operations, and an operation specific functionalities module (414) comprising operation specific functionalities capable of using data from the service repository (450). The order management component (410) receives a requests from the business support system (400) and processes it according to the generic logic (412) calling the operation specific functionalities in the operation specific functionalities module (414). By means of this configuration, the system can perform a request-specific series of operations based on the received request and the data from the service repository, without the need of programming individual workflows for each different service activation, deactivation and modification situation possible in the telecommunications network.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to provisioning and activation for services in telecommunication systems. [0002] The invention also relates to a service provisioning and activation system in a telecommunications network. Such systems are usually connected to network elements of a telecommunications network and to a business support system (BSS), and their function is to enable said telecommunications network to provide services that have been requested by the business support system. [0003] The invention also relates to a computer program product for controlling service provisioning and activating computers within the system. [0004] In emerging new communication networks as 3G, Next Generation Network, All-IP, IP Multimedia System (IMS), etc., the amount of marketable products and services in an operator's offering is rapidly increasing. This poses a challenge to the operator's Operations and Support System (OSS) due to the large number of network ...
