Embodiment Construction

[0076] figure 1 A system in which the bit error handling means 110 is provided is illustrated. This system comprises an encoder 10 which delivers a bit stream T as output. The protection module 12 restores the bit stream, and reads the value of the sensitive bit to be protected in this bit stream. According to the parameters with which they are coded, this protection device classifies the sensitive bits to be protected in different classes. These classes are established according to the type of parameter encoded, in order to differentiate the processing to be applied if an erroneous bit is detected in one of the classes.

[0077] Then, the protection bits P are calculated on the identified bits to be protected. The protection bits are determined according to a method that may differ according to the category into which the bits to be protection are classified. In this way, different protection levels may be provided depending on the classification of the bits to be protec...

Abstract

The invention relates to a method for handling binary errors in a binary frame sent from a digital audio encoder, comprising a step for receiving a current binary frame possibly comprising binary errors. According to the invention, said binary frame comprises sensitive bits to be protected, said sensitive bits being classified in at least one category according to the type of parameter they encode, and said method further comprises the steps of: receiving protected bits; reading received sensitive bits in the current binary frame, the number of sensitive bits being less than the number of bits of the binary frame; detecting a binary error as a function of said received protected bits and said received sensitive bits; and if in said binary frame If at least one erroneous bit is detected in a frame, the current binary frame is modified prior to decoding as a function of the class into which said erroneous bit is classified. The invention also concerns a device for implementing the method according to the invention together with a decoder comprising such a device, and an encoding / decoding system.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the processing of digital signals in the field of telecommunications. These signals may eg be speech signals, music signals, video signals or, more generally, multimedia signals. More specifically, the invention aims at protecting encoded data from bit errors, and the processing of bit errors in bit frames. [0002] The invention applies more particularly to encoding / decoding systems of the hierarchical type. Background technique [0003] Various techniques exist for converting to digital form and compressing digital audio signals. The most common techniques are: [0004] - Waveform encoding methods such as PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) and ADPCM (Adaptive Differential Pulse Code Modulation) encoding, [0005] - analysis and synthesis based parametric coding methods such as CELP (Code Excited Linear Prediction) coding, and [0006] - Method of perceptual coding in sub-bands or by transformation. [0007] These techniques pr...
