The target node also does not know when the timer expires in the UE (e.g. when there is a problem with the uplink transmission in the target cell), resulting in failure of the handover or SCG change procedure

Abstract

A process allows a UE to acquire an SEN before accessing a target base station / node during a RACH-less handover. The SEN may be provided to the UE in various ways. For example, the SEN may be provided as part of a handover command message (e.g., RRCReconfiguration) or a master information block (MIB). In this manner, the UE acquires the SEN before accessing the target base station / node, which allows the target base station / node and the UE to effect certain timings for the handover. For example, the target base station / node and the UE may set time bounds in which the handover must occur. As another example, different types of uplink grants may be set.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates generally to wireless communications, and more particularly, to handovers in wireless networks. Background technique [0002] As part of 3GPP Release 14, Random Access Channel (RACH)-free handover (HO) and RACH-free Secondary Cell Group (SCG) change have been specified for Long Term Evolution (LTE) to reduce the interruption time at handover and SCG change respectively . The RACH-less handover procedure means that no Msg1 transmission (eg RACH preamble transmission) or Msg2 transmission (eg network acknowledgment with a random access response message) by the user equipment (UE) is performed when accessing the target cell during handover. [0003] Through Msg2, the network provides the UE with an uplink (UL) grant for transmission of more information to the network in so-called Msg3. Msg1 is also used inter alia by the network to determine the timing advance (TA) value that the UE should use in its uplink transmissions f...
