Problems solved by technology

In addition to being unable to adapt to aspect ratio changes, traditional video matching techniques—such as key frame-based methods, correlation-based methods, ordinal measuring techniques, etc.—do not consider the temporal characteristics of the video stream
Not paying attention to temporal changes in the video can lead to many false detections of copies

Embodiment Construction

[0035] A system, apparatus and method invention for detecting unauthorized copying of video is described. It will be apparent, however, to one skilled in the art, from the following description, that the present invention may be practiced without some or all of these specific details. In other instances, well known process operations have not been described in detail in order not to unnecessarily obscure the present invention. Figure 1A and 1B Described in the "Background Technology" section.

[0036] Embodiments of the present invention provide systems that utilize an algorithm that efficiently detects duplication of video data. As will be explained more fully below, copies that have been altered in color and visual appearance, as well as in spatial configuration, such as aspect ratio, can be routinely identified. When using ordinal measures for stereo image matching, the ordinal variable can be extracted from a discrete ordered set such as grade in school. Here, the rati...

Abstract

A method for a matching technique for detecting copies of a video clip is provided. The method includes comparing temporal trails of intensity distributions between frames of the video clip and frames of a target video. A computer readable media, a computer system and integrated circuit for video copy detection are also provided.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates generally to digital video technology, and more particularly to a method and apparatus for detecting unauthorized copies of video data based on its spatial and temporal content. Background technique [0002] This application claims the priority of the US Provisional Patent Application "Video Copy Detection Using Original Measure of Temporal Variation" (Application No. 60 / 480,758, filing date 2003-6-23). This application is related to the US patent application "Method and Apparatus for Content-based Image Copy Detection (method and device for content-based image copy detection)" (application number 10 / 263,432, filing date 2002-10-1). These applications are hereby incorporated by reference in their entirety. [0003] The success of the Internet and the widespread availability of cost-effective digital storage devices have made it possible to easily copy, transmit and distribute digital content. Therefore, the protection of...
