Embodiment Construction

[0133] exist Figure 4.1 , a schematic diagram of the framework for loudspeaker / room correction design is shown. The main functions are pre-processing, frequency band separation, three-band correction and post-processing. The contents of these modules are explained in detail in the next section. The design framework for room acoustic correction is built in a flexible way that allows flexibility in all parameters. Although the design framework starts with the correction of the impulse response of a single propagation path, this can be constructed by the weighted average of more responses. There are quite a few resonant peaks in the low frequency range, and a frequency resolution of about 2 Hz is sufficient, but a straightforward implementation with an FIR filter requires about 22,000 filter coefficients to achieve this resolution. Today, this is still too large for standard signal processors. However, such high resolutions are only required in the low frequency bands, so ban...

Abstract

A method of digitally equalising the sound from a loudspeaker that is placed in a certain room, said room having varying acoustic properties affecting the way a user perceive the sound, is corrected in a certain part of the room, by measuring one or more impulse responses through a microphone, said impulse responses being processed in a pre-processing algorithm, in at least two parallel frequency band correction algorithms and a post processing algorithm. As an option a pre-correction algorithm can be coupled between the pre-processing algorithm and the frequency band correction filters. The pre-correction algorithm is adapted to receive input representing measured loudspeaker characteristics under ideal condition in an anarchic room, and / or parameters from a reflections attenuation algorithm. From the post processing algorithm the final filter parameters are stored and used for correcting sound from a source connected to the amplifier feeding the loudspeaker to the acoustic behaviour of the actual room the loudspeaker is placed in. If any parameters in the room are changed then the correction method according to the invention can be repeated in order to set up new filter parameters.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to a method of digitally equalizing the sound emitted by a loudspeaker placed in a room, the room and the loudspeaker having a combined loudspeaker / room transfer function, the method comprising: placing a microphone in the room and sending Generate one or more impulses and measure the impulse response at the intended listening position. [0002] Furthermore, the invention relates to the use of this method. Background technique [0003] High Fidelity Sound Reproduction [0004] Since the invention of loudspeakers more than a hundred years ago, the purpose of sound reproduction has gradually changed and become more challenging. In the early days of sound reproduction, realistic technical goals were related to sound level, amplification, sound effects, and so on. Today, these issues no longer present us with practical technical challenges. Efforts continued to advance, and by the end of the 20th century the quality of sou...
