These transmission lines have the properties of microstrip transmission lines. Electrode 130 is a ground electrode and electrode 128 is a radio frequency (RF) or signal electrode (eg, a microstrip transmission line). MMIC 102 receives radio frequency modulation signal 132, which is used to modulate optical signal 120 in MZI 104, thereby providing modulated optical signal 122 as output.
