Problems solved by technology

However, in order to ensure a high degree of security, a large number of fingerprint feature points need to exist, which means that matching one fingerprint feature point of the reference pattern with the corresponding fingerprint feature point in the scanned pattern becomes a very complicated problem

Embodiment Construction

[0027] Hereinafter, an embodiment of an apparatus for detecting point correspondences between a first point set and a second point set according to the present invention will be described with reference to FIG. 1 . The device indicated by reference numeral 1 in FIG. 1 is a fingerprint authentication device. This type of fingerprint authentication device 1 can be implemented in the form of a portable handheld computer, a PDA or a notebook, for example. The fingerprint authentication device 1 in Fig. 1 comprises a display 2 with a touch area 3 suitable for scanning a fingerprint of a finger, such as a thumbprint of a person. The fingerprint verification device 1 also includes a small keyboard 4 with a plurality of keys 5, through which the fingerprint verification operation can be controlled. The fingerprint authentication device 1 also comprises processor means such as a CPU, a working memory and an energy storage or a rechargeable battery enabling the fingerprint authenticati...

Abstract

A method, device and computer program for detecting point correspondences in sets of points and in particular for fingerprint verification. Points of note on fingerprint lines in a scanned fingerprint are compared with corresponding points of note on fingerprint lines in a reference fingerprint and matching pairs are formed from possible corresponding points of note in the scanned fingerprint and the reference fingerprint. A maximum number of such matching pairs is found. This allows an efficient method to be specified, for fingerprint verification for example, that requires only a small amount of working memory and computing power.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a method and a device for detecting point correspondences between a first point set and a second point set. Background technique [0002] Such methods are often used in the field of biometric identification, such as in fingerprint authentication. In the past few years, biometric identification has made great progress in both technology areas involving sensors and analysis. The check of a person's identity by analyzing properties characteristic of the person's body, ie biometric properties, is performed at a specific frequency by reference to a fingerprint. [0003] The purpose is, for example, to identify fingerprints for safer and easier access to secure areas. Such systems are made easier for the user as it is no longer necessary for the user to carry a "key" either in actual physical form or in the form of a PIN code. The additional use of biometric properties also leads to a clear increase in security, since stealing a f...
