Problems solved by technology

However, since each RB needs its own header information, this solution adds a lot of overhead in data transmission
This is the obvious shortcoming of this solution. A large amount of overhead will offset the gain brought by UEP on the air interface, so the overhead in the system needs to be reduced urgently.
[0015] Therefore, the above-mentioned prior art solutions for implementing UEP on VoIP have problems to be solved, and the problems relate to user end service quality and system overhead

Embodiment Construction

[0043] In Reference 1, it is not stated how the receiver of a packet applying unequal protection should know which bits in the packet are protected and which are not, nor how the transmitter should know Which bits in the received packet are protected and which are not.

[0044] The signaling resources of the data-associated signaling are limited. For example, on HSDPA and HSUPA, the signaling resources are limited so as to minimize the signaling overhead. Data-associated signaling includes signaling related to data transmission, and the signaling itself does not carry specific data information. Such data-associated signaling is sent frequently, for example, every time data is sent, a signaling is sent. Therefore, adding extra bits for carrying data in data association signaling should be avoided. Adding UEP encoded data-related bits in the signaling will also increase the overhead of non-UEP data, so it is not appropriate to directly notify the use-related information of UEP...

Abstract

An improved packet transmission is disclosed. According to the invention, a transmitter includes a number of entities working according to a number of protocols, these protocols including a MAC (Media Access Control) layer protocol and a number of protocols of layers higher than the MAC layer. This transmitter is to transmit at least one packet, wherein at least a part of the packet is encoded by an encoder supporting UEP (Unequal Error Protection). A MAC layer entity of the transmitter receives, from at least one of the higher layer entities, the at least one packet to be transmitted and at least one packet parameter. The transmitter then chooses, based on said at least one packet parameter, a partial error protection to be applied to the at least one packet. Further, the transmitter transmits the at least one packet to a receiver in said telecommunication system, applying the chosen partial error protection to the at least one packet, and also indicates the applied partial error protection to said receiver in a way agreed between said transmitter and said receiver.

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to the transmission of data packets coded according to Unequal Error Protection (UEP) requirements in a wireless communication system. [0002] The present invention particularly relates to a data packet transmission method applied on a transmitter in a communication system, the transmitter includes a plurality of entities operating according to different protocols, and the protocols include: a medium access control (MAC) layer protocol, and a MAC The protocol of the upper layer of the layer; where at least one packet to be sent is at least partly encoded using an encoder that supports UEP. [0003] The present invention also relates to a data packet transmission method applied to a receiver in a communication system, the receiver is used to receive a data packet, and the data packet includes at least a part of information encoded by an encoder supporting UEP in a transmitter; The receiver also includes a plurality of entities oper...
