[0024] All ranges listed herein are inclusive and combinable. For example, if the stated speed is equal to or greater than 0.08m / s, or up to 2.5m / s, preferably equal to or greater than 0.5m / s, then the present invention includes all the following numerical ranges: 0.08-2.5m / s, 0.08-0.5 m / s, 0.5-2.5m / s.

[0025] Unless otherwise stated, any term that includes parentheses indicates cases where the complete term does not exist, as well as cases where the term does not include the content within the parentheses, and combinations of these cases. Thus, the term (co)polymer means a homopolymer or a copolymer.

[0026] As used herein, the word "aqueous" includes water and mixtures comprising water and one or more water-miscible solvents.

[0027] In the present invention, the term "emulsion polymer" means a polymer prepared by emulsion polymerization in water or in an aqueous mixture.

Abstract

The present invention provides a device for applying a fluid sealant with a light touch, the device comprising a wand with a fluid sealant supply, either as part of the wand or as a separate supply tube, attached to the top of an applicator head via a universal joint, wherein the applicator head has a chamber on its underside which is sufficiently large to enable a constant supply of a fluid sealant to a substrate that is to be sealed, and the applicator head has an edge disposed around its lower periphery adapted to strike the sealant flat. In addition, the present invention provides methods of using the devices to form a seal, e.g. a weather-resistive barrier on a sheathed building structure, by applying a flexible and compressible foam to gaps in the structure. The foam may comprise one or more aqueous polymer having a glass transition temperature of less than 25 DEG C.

Description

technical field [0001] The present invention relates to apparatus for applying fluid sealants with little or no manual pressure or strain, and to methods of using said apparatus to provide a seal, such as a weather resistant barrier. More specifically, the present invention relates to a device for applying foam sealant comprising an elongated handle or rod connected by a universal joint to the top side of an applicator head, the applicator The applicator head has a chamber on its underside for continuously applying sealant to gaps in the substrate at any angle while the device is being moved in any desired direction. Background technique [0002] Sheets based on wood, wood composites, cement, or plaster (also known as cladding) are commonly used in many building structures with a decorative surface or cladding (such as wood, aluminum, or vinyl siding or a brick surface) on the exterior put up. While under construction, these buildings require a weather resistant barrier. ...
