Abstract

A method for starting up a computer includes the following steps: starting up the computer and powering on; enabling a timer to begin to work; selecting a main basic input output system (BIOS) chip according to a selecting circuit wafer connected with the timer; detecting if an operating system can be guided in through a BIOS program in the main BIOS chip within set time of the timer, if the operating system can be guided in, the timer is closed, otherwise an auxiliary BIOS chip is selected through the selecting circuit wafer, reset of a system is triggered, and the operating system is guided in through the BIOS program in the auxiliary BIOS chip. When the main BIOS chip can not start up the computer normally, the method can automatically switch to the auxiliary BIOS chip and guide in the operating system, manual intervention is not required, and unattended operation during system application is achieved. In addition, the invention further provides a BIOS automatic restoring circuit for the method for starting up the computer.
