Problems solved by technology

However, alternative cups of this type employing a ring valve in the lid do not provide an optimal seal for preventing the escape of liquid from the container, especially when the cup is exposed to so-called "shock" movements, such as when the cup when shaken suddenly

Embodiment Construction

[0047] Throughout the following description, the same reference numerals will be used to identify similar parts.

[0048] Referring to FIGS. 1 to 14 , and in particular to FIGS. 1 and 5 , there is shown a first embodiment of a drinking vessel comprising a container, generally indicated at 10 , and a lid, generally indicated at 20 . The container 10 comprises a base 11 and an upstanding peripheral side wall 12 defining a chamber 13 therein in which liquid remains during use. The upper edge of the side wall 12 defines a rim 14 from which a user drinks. The internal thread 16 is placed within the container with a circumferential shoulder 17 above the internal thread 16 . Both the internal thread 16 and the circumferential shoulder 17 are adapted to engage the cap 20 . An inner sealing surface 15 is defined on the inner side of the chamber 13 between the upper edge of the rim 14 and the circumferential shoulder 17 .

Abstract

A drinking vessel comprises a generally cylindrical container (10) for containing liquid, and a lid (20). The lid comprises a generally cylindrical inner member (21) and a generally cylindrical sealing element (30) which surrounds the inner member (21). The container10further comprises a rim (14) and an inner circumferential sealing surface (15). The lid (20) is fixedly insertable into the container 10 in order, when the lid (20) is inserted, to cause the sealing element (30) to lie against the sealing surface so as normally to form a seal with the sealing surface (15). The seal is deformable by suction at the rim (14) such that under the action of the suction liquid within the container (10) is caused to flow from a chamber (13) inside the container out past the rim (14).

Description

technical field [0001] The invention relates to a drinking vessel of this type, eg comprising a substantially cylindrical seal which bears against a substantially cylindrical sealing surface so as to enable a user to draw liquid from the rim of the drinking vessel. Background technique [0002] For use in intermediate stages of a child's development as the child transitions from feeding from a feeding bottle or breast to drinking from a traditional cup or glass, comprising a container for liquids and a lid comprising a mouth, usually in the form of a cup Training cups are well known. [0003] ] However, at that stage, the child will not appreciate that if the cup is tipped over or shaken, the liquid inside will spill. Accordingly, there is a need to develop training cups that are adapted to not spill their contents when shaken or turned over. [0004] British patent specification GB-A-2 266 045 describes such a cup in which the one-way valve is arranged in the mouth of the...
