The dual-mode card reader comprises a non-contact reading and writing module, a contact reading and writing module, a connection module and a microcontroller, wherein the non-contact reading and writing module wirelessly senses a prepaid sensing card; the contact reading and writing module is inserted and connected with a verification chip card; and the connection module is connected with an external host. When the contact reading and writing module is already inserted and connected with the verification chip card, the microcontroller allows the non-contact reading and writing module and the prepaid sensing card to perform data transmission via wireless sensing.
