Abstract

An apparatus for generating a disparity image generates a first initial disparity image and a second initial disparity image by performing stereo matching respectively on a first image and a second image of the stereoscopic image; the method comprises the following steps: generating a first enhancement disparity image and a second enhancement disparity image by performing edge-preserving filtering on a first initial disparity image and a second initial disparity image respectively; and then by using the reliability factor for the disparity value of each pixel of the first and second initial disparity images and the reliability factor for the disparity value of each pixel of the first and second enhancement disparity images, the disparity values for each pixel of the first and second initial disparity images are enhanced.
