Abstract

The invention discloses a portable device and a method for field monitoring of alga density. The device comprises a floating platform, a bracket, a buoy and a display, wherein the floating platform is internally provided with an instrument container; the instrument container is internally provided with a storage battery bank, a power supply board, an alga monitor, a data converter and a peristaltic pump; a wireless communicator and a communication antenna are arranged above the bracket; the buoy is internally provided with a lifting motor and a sampling pipe extending into water via the lifting motor; the upper end of the sampling pipe extends to the peristaltic pump; and the peristaltic pump controls water quantity of a water sample acquired by the sampling pipe. The method comprises the following steps of: (1) instrument mounting, (2) sampling, (3) measurement and (4) transmission of measured data. The device and the method monitor a vertical distribution situation of algae in a shallow lake in real time and acquire the density of alga cell populations at different water depths.
