Abstract

An air conditioner comprising: a compressor having an inbuilt electric motor; a temperature sensor that detects indoor temperature; a drive circuit that drives the electric motor; a connection switching device that switches a connection for a stator winding in the electric motor to between a first connection state and a second connection state having a higher inter-line voltage than the first connection state; and a control device that performs control whereby the connection switching device is caused to perform connection switching and control whereby a thermostat is turned off which stops the compressor via the drive circuit once the indoor temperature reaches a target temperature or a correction temperature set on the basis of the target temperature. When the electric motor is in the first connection state and once the number of times the thermostat has been turned off reaches a standard number, the control device causes the connection switching device to switch connection from thefirst connection state to the second connection state.
