Abstract

An air conditioner and a method of controlling the same, which is capable of minimizing power consumed in an indoor unit and an outdoor unit by cutting off external power supplied to the outdoor unit in a standby mode when it is determined that the air conditioner has a standby operation condition. When a standby operation state is switched to a normal operation state, power is supplied from an indoor power supply unit to an outdoor power supply unit via a communication line to perform an initial operation of an outdoor unit of the air conditioner. Accordingly, external power supplied to the outdoor control board is completely cut off in the standby operation state and only an indoor unit is in a standby state, thereby minimizing standby power consumed in the air conditioner.

Description

technical field [0001] The present general inventive concept relates to an air conditioner and a control method thereof, and more particularly, to an air conditioner capable of reducing standby power during a standby operation of the air conditioner and a control method thereof. Background technique [0002] An air conditioner is a system that uses pipes to connect major components (such as a compressor, an outdoor heat exchanger, an expansion device, and an indoor heat exchanger) to circulate a refrigerant to form a refrigeration cycle, and separates the components and installs them in an outdoor unit. and indoor units, thereby using the indoor unit to cool or heat the equipment of the room. [0003] Generally, the indoor unit and the outdoor unit are installed in different places, and are connected to each other through a power line and a communication line, and exchange information, for example, control commands related to an operation or an operation state, through the c...
