Problems solved by technology

[0004] However, when the fuel cell is kept off in a state where the external temperature is extremely low, there is a problem in that the gas diffusion layer (GDL) is destroyed by volume expansion due to freezing of generated water remaining in the fuel cell stack.
[0006] According to such control, residual water in the fuel cell stack is not sufficiently discharged, or when air is excessively supplied, the amount of oxygen supplied to the hydrogen electrode of the fuel cell stack increases or the air compressor is excessively driven, thereby degrading the fuel cell stack. fuel efficiency, etc.

Abstract

A system and a method for removing residual water in a fuel cell stack are provided. The method includes: blocking, by an air compressor, air supply to a fuel cell stack upon shutting down of fuel cell; measuring a cell voltage of the fuel cell stack while the air supply is blocked; estimating an amount of residual water in the fuel cell stack based on the measured cell voltage of the fuel cell stack; and removing, by a driving controller, the residual water in the fuel cell stack by driving the air compressor based on the estimated amount of water.

Description

technical field [0001] The present disclosure relates to a method and system for removing residual water in a fuel cell stack, and more particularly, to a technique for removing residual water in a fuel cell stack to prevent freezing when a fuel cell is shut down. Background technique [0002] A fuel cell is a power generation device as a battery for directly converting chemical energy generated by oxidation of fuel into electrical energy. A fuel cell is basically the same as a chemical cell in that it uses an oxidation-reduction reaction, but differs from a chemical cell in which a battery reaction is performed in a closed system in that reactants are continuously supplied from the outside and thus reaction products are continuously supplied removed from the system. [0003] In recent years, a fuel cell power generation system has been commercialized, and a reaction product of the fuel cell is pure water, so that development of using it as an energy source for environment-...
