The image enhancement method comprises the following steps of: changing an original image from RGB space into grayscale space to acquire a grayscale image corresponding to the original image; calculating the grayscale average value of the grayscale image, and comparing the grayscale average value with a preset threshold value and acquiring grayscale comparison result; performing contrast stretching on the original images, wherein contrast stretching parameters are determined by the grayscale comparison results; and performing image merging on images of which the contrast is stretched and the original images to acquire enhanced images. The images with poor contrast are processed by utilizing the image enhancement method to provide the images which have the clear contrast and contain much detail information for users.
