The method comprises: sending detection information from a PCP server to a PCP client, wherein the detection information is constructed by the PCP server based on PCP for requesting the PCP client to return response information; judging whether the response information of the PCP clinent is received in a scheduled time; and if the response information of the PCP clinent is not received in a scheduled time, recovering the public network address resource distributed for the PCP client. The method in the embodiments enables the PCP server to actively detect a work state of the PCP client, and to timely recover the public network address resource of a abnormal PCP client, thereby reducing waste of the public network address resource.
