The method comprises the following operation steps: (a) when a fault alarm occurs to a home appliance, a corresponding fault code is generated according to the type of the fault alarm; (b) the fault code obtained from step (a) is converted into a two-dimensional code; and (c) the two-dimensional code obtained from step (b) is scanned and identified to judge fault information of the home appliance. By adopting the method and the system of the invention, the waste of time, energy and resources in the process in which users ask for maintenance after a home appliance fault occurs is avoided, and the dependence on the network is also avoided.
