An upper pressure chamber and a lower pressure chamber are communicated in a connection manner, a gas inlet is formed in the lower pressure chamber and is connected with a gas outlet of a gas pump, a testing tank is arranged at the connecting position of the upper pressure chamber and the lower pressure chamber, the testing tank is connected with a measuring cup, a pressure bearing membrane and a water permeable membrane are arranged on the upper pressure chamber and the lower pressure chamber, the pressure bearing membrane is away from the connecting position of two pressure chambers, the water permeable membrane is close to the connecting position of the two pressure chambers, and a water inlet is formed between the pressure bearing membrane and the water permeable membrane and is connected with a water inlet box. The invention also provides a detection method by use of the detector. The detection method comprises the steps of mounting a double-model structure, placing sandy soil, mounting a testing sample, introducing water, pressurizing and the like. The double-model structure is adopted to prevent permeation water from permeating from one end of the testing sample, the permeation water permeates into the testing sample after spreading the whole water permeable membrane, and the conformity of the testing result and the practical working condition is improved; a sandy soil mounting groove can simulate the working state of a in-situ water drain plate really; and the testing tank can be opened conveniently for containing the testing sample due to the structures of the upper pressure chamber and the lower pressure chamber.
